He went in a public, attention-drawing way

Do what is right without turning it into a display

Wait to act until you are guaranteed public approval

Keep your commitment hidden even if no one is served

Make the action noticeable so others will respect you

Lord, revive your Church to follow your Son with humble obedience. Free us from the need to be seen, and teach us to move when you lead, to serve when you call, and to honor you in both public and private ways, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew the Church in Quiet Faithfulness

Pray by naming one decision you are facing, then ask God whether you should wait or go. Ask him to show you the right time, the right place, and the right manner, so your obedience is quiet and faithful.

Thank God for wisdom that knows when to wait and when to move. Thank him for the grace to obey without needing applause, and for the freedom to live faithfully even when no one is watching.

Father, teach me to do what is right without needing attention. Purify my motives, quiet my pride, and make me steady in unseen places, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
