1. Formal Translation
And it happened in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that a Levite sojourning in the outskirts of the hill country of Ephraim took to himself a concubine from Bethlehem of Judah.

In those days, when Israel had no king, a Levite living in the remote parts of the hill country of Ephraim took a concubine for himself from Bethlehem in Judah.
