Exegesis

The verse opens with a nominal alternative marked by ushetei torim {וּשְׁתֵּי תֹרִים | u-šə-tê ṭō-rîm} ‘and two doves’ or shenei benei yonah {שְׁנֵי בְּנֵי יוֹנָה | šə-nê bə-nê yō-nāh} ‘two young pigeons’ (lit. “sons of the dove”), establishing a substitution for varying means.
