Then the LORD {YHWH, Lawgiver} spoke to Moses {Mosheh: Deliverer}, saying,
This shall be the law {torat: divine instruction} of the leper {metsora: one afflicted} on the day of his cleansing; he shall be brought to the priest.
Then the priest {kohen: ceremonial officiant} shall go outside the camp and inspect the affliction of leprosy {nega: striking malady} to verify that it has been healed from the leper;
Then the priest {kohen: ritual mediator} shall command that two living clean birds, cedar {erez: durable fragrant wood} wood, scarlet thread, and hyssop be taken for the one being cleansed.
Then the priest {kohen: appointed mediator} shall command that one of the birds be slaughtered over an earthenware vessel above living water {mayim chayyim: fresh running source}.
He shall take the living bird {ha-ḥayyāh: alive} along with the cedar wood, the scarlet, and the hyssop {ezov: cleansing herb}, and dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the living water.
And he shall sprinkle upon the one being cleansed from the leprosy {tsaraʻat: Defiling Disease} seven times and declare him clean. Then he shall release the live bird {hachayyah: Restored Life Symbol} into the open field.
And the one being cleansed shall wash his garments {beged: ritual covering}, shave off all his hair, and bathe in water; then he shall be clean. Afterwards he shall enter the camp {machaneh: social gathering}, but he shall remain outside his tent for seven days.
And it shall be on the seventh day that he shall shave off all his hair—from his head, his beard, and the eyebrows of his eyes—indeed, all his hair he shall shave off. Then he shall wash his garments {beged: ritual attire} and bathe {rachats: ceremonial washing} his flesh in water, and he shall be clean.
And on the eighth day he shall take two male lambs without blemish {temimim: physically unblemished}, and one ewe lamb a year old without blemish {temimah: perfect in form}; and three-tenths of fine flour for a grain offering mixed with oil, and one log of oil.
Then the priest shall cause the man being cleansed and the offerings to stand before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Presence} at the entrance {petach: threshold} of the tent of meeting.
And the priest shall take the one lamb and offer it as a guilt offering {asham: restitution sacrifice}, and the log of oil, and he shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Sanctifier}.
He shall slaughter {shachat: ritual sacrifice} the lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place {kodesh: consecrated space}; for as the sin offering so is the guilt offering—it is for the priest, it is most holy.
And the priest {kohen: sanctuary minister} shall take from the blood of the guilt offering {asham: atonement sacrifice}, and the priest shall put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.
And the priest {kohen: ritual mediator} shall take some oil from the log {millog: liquid measure} and pour it upon the palm of the priest’s left hand.
Then the priest will dip{vetaval: ritual immersion} his right finger into the oil on his left palm, and with his finger he will sprinkle the oil seven times before the LORD {YHWH, Sacred Witness}.
And from the remainder of the oil on his palm, the priest shall put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed {mitaher: ritually purified}, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the guilt offering {asham: sacrifice for restitution}.
And the remainder {hanotar: remnant reserved for final anointing} of the oil on the palm of the priest he shall put on the head of the one being cleansed; and the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Restorer}.
And the priest {kohen: sanctuary official} shall offer the sin offering and shall make atonement for the one being cleansed {mitaher: ritual purification} from his uncleanness. Afterward he shall slaughter the burnt offering.
And the priest {kohen: Minister Before God} shall offer up the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar, and the priest shall make atonement {kipper: Act of Reconciliation} for him, and he shall be clean.
But if he is poor and his hand {yado: means to provide} cannot reach, then he shall take one lamb as a guilt offering for a wave offering, to make atonement for him, and a tenth {issaron: tenth part} of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering, and a log of oil.
And two doves or two sons of the dove {benei yonah: literal expression} that his hand can afford, one shall be for a sin offering {chatat: atonement sacrifice} and the other for a burnt offering.
And he shall bring them on the eighth day for his cleansing {taharah: ritual cleansing} to the priest, to the entrance of the tent of meeting, before the LORD {YHWH, Divine Presence}.
And the priest shall take the lamb {keves: young sheep} of the guilt offering and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Judge}.
And he shall slaughter the lamb {keves: sacrificial lamb} of the guilt offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed {mittaher: undergoing ritual purification}, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.
And from the oil, the priest {kohen: minister before God} shall pour it upon the palm {kaf: hollow of the hand} of the priest’s left hand.
And the priest shall sprinkle {vehizzah: purification rite} with his right finger from the oil that is upon his left palm, seven times before the LORD {YHWH, Ritual Authority}.
And the priest {kohen: ministering official} shall put from the oil that is in his palm upon the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the big toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the guilt offering {asham: ritual recompense}.
And the remainder of the oil which is on the palm of the priest {kohen: priestly mediator}, he shall put on the head of the one being cleansed to make atonement for him before the LORD {YHWH, Atonement Receiver}.
And he shall prepare {asa: ritual preparation} one from the doves or from the young pigeons, from whatever his hand {yado: personal means} can attain.
Whatever he can afford {tashig: able to attain} with his means, the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering with the grain offering; and the priest shall make atonement for the one being cleansed before the LORD {YHWH, Atoning God}.
This is the law {torat: ritual prescription} for the one in whom there is a leprous affliction of leprosy who cannot obtain {tasig: secure required means} his cleansing.
And the LORD {YHWH, Lawgiver} spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying {lemor: introducing divine command}.
When you enter the land of Canaan, which I {ani, Sovereign Land-Giver} am giving to you as a possession {achuzah: allotted inheritance}, and I put an affliction of leprosy in a house in the land of your possession;
And the owner of the house comes and reports to the priest {kohen: consecrated mediator}, saying, “Something like a plague {nega: affliction} has appeared to me in the house.”
And the priest {kohen: consecrated official} shall command that they clear out the house before the priest comes to inspect the plague {nega: ritual lesion}, so that nothing in the house will become unclean. Afterward the priest shall come to inspect the house.
And he shall examine the affliction {hannega: ritual contamination}, and behold, if the affliction is on the walls of the house in hollow places {sheka’aru-rot: sunken depressions} of greenish or reddish hue, and their appearance is lower than the wall.
And the priest {kohen: ministering official} shall go out from the house to its entrance, and he shall confine {sagar: ritual isolation} the house for seven days.
And the priest {kohen: minister before God} will return on the seventh day, and he will see; behold, the affliction {nega': visible mark of impurity} has spread on the walls of the house.
And the priest {kohen: sanctuary official} shall command, and they shall tear out the stones which have the infection {nega: affliction}, and they shall cast them outside the city to an unclean place.
And he shall scrape the house {bayit: dwelling structure} all around from within, and they shall pour out the dust {afar: scraped material} that they have scraped off to the outside of the city, to an unclean place.
And they shall take other stones and bring them to replace the stones, and he shall take other plaster {afar: fine earth material} and plaster the house {bayit: household structure}.
And if the affliction{nega: ritually impure spot} returns and spreads in the house after he has torn out the stones{avanim: foundation elements}, and after he has scraped the house, and after he has plastered it.
And the priest {kohen: appointed officiant} shall come and examine it, and behold, if the affliction has spread in the house, it is a malignant leprosy {tsara‘at: defiling disease} in the house; it is unclean.
He shall tear down the house{bayit: dwelling structure}—its stones, its timbers, and all the plaster{afar: debris material} of the house—and he shall carry them outside the city to an unclean place.
And anyone who enters {veha-ba: inclusive participle} the house during all the days that he isolates {hisgir: ritual confinement} it shall be unclean until the evening.
And whoever lies down in the house shall wash his garments {beged: clothing}, and whoever eats {okhel: consuming food} in the house shall wash his garments.
And if the priest {kohen: ritual mediator} enters and observes that the affliction {nega: disease mark} has not spread in the house after it has been plastered, then he shall pronounce the house clean because the affliction has been healed.
He shall take two birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn {tolaat: scarlet yarn}, and hyssop {ezov: purification plant} to purify the house.
And he shall slaughter the one bird into a clay vessel{keli-cheres: ritual vessel} placed over living water{mayim chayim: fresh, running water}.
