The verse opens with velo {וְלֹא | wə-lōʾ} ‘and not,’ forming a prohibition clause with the Piel imperfect techallelu {תְחַלְּלוּ | tə-ḥalləlû} ‘you shall profane’ governing the construct et-shem kodshi {אֶת־שֵׁם קָדְשִׁי | ʾet-šēm qād-šî} ‘the name of my holiness.’
