The Pharisees are speaking to the disciples

Not everyone is able to receive the teaching

Only those to whom it is given can receive it

Anyone can receive it if they try hard enough

The verse says the message is impossible for everyone

Receive it humbly and ask God to make you open to it

Set it aside unless it matches what you already think

Treat it as something you can understand only by sheer effort

Assume the verse means only a few people are worth listening to

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and need your mercy. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and receive you as my Lord. Give me a heart that welcomes your word and trusts you fully. Amen.

Receive Jesus and His Word

Lord, revive your Church with humble hearts that receive your word instead of resisting it. Deliver us from pride, half-listening, and selective obedience. Make us eager to hear, quick to repent, and ready to follow what you say, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

A Teachable Church

Father, where your words feel hard, give me grace to receive them. Break through my resistance, quiet my excuses, and make me willing to learn from you. Help me trust your wisdom more than my own, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Open My Heart to Your Teaching

Pray by naming one teaching of Jesus that you struggle to receive. Ask God to give you humility, light for the next step, and a willing heart to obey what he shows you.

Pray Through a Hard Saying

Give thanks for every time God has helped you understand, trust, or obey his word. Thank him that receiving his truth is not merely a human achievement but a gift.

Thank God for Grace to Receive

Pray for people who find Jesus' words difficult or offensive: that God would soften their hearts, clear away confusion, and give them the gift of understanding. Pray also for patience and gentleness in your own speech, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
