Take the role of a slave toward the others

The people inside the group being addressed

The people watching from outside the group

Choose the lower place and serve in a way that costs you something

Aim to be noticed so people will respect your influence

Wait until others serve you before you help them

Keep your position, but make your words sound humble

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned, chased my own honor, and resisted your way of humility. I cannot save myself. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and give you my life. Be my Lord and my Savior, and teach me to follow you in humble obedience. Amen.

Come Under Your Lordship

Lord, revive your Church. Free us from pride, rank-seeking, and the need to be seen. Teach us to choose the low place gladly, to honor one another, and to serve with joy. Let our communities look like your kingdom, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Make Your People Servant-Hearted

Bring to God any craving to be first, any irritation when others are honored, and any hidden pride in your service. Ask him to show you where status has mattered more than love.

Renounce the Need to Be First

Pray by naming one place where you want recognition. Ask Jesus to show you the lower task he is putting before you, and ask for the willingness to do it today.

Pray for a Humble Heart

Pray for one person you tend to overlook, one relationship where honor has been missing, and the courage to serve without needing credit.

Serve Someone Beyond Yourself

Lord, thank you that you lead by serving and call me into the same path. Free me from the hunger to outrank others, and make me glad to lift people up by taking the low place, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank You for Christlike Humility
