Assume it was meant for someone else and keep going unchanged

Defend your image first and revisit it later

Focus on the speaker's tone so you can dismiss the point

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, when your words expose my heart, I admit that I have sinned and gone my own way. I turn from my sin and from defending myself. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as Lord, and I ask you to forgive me, lead me, and make me new. Amen.

Come to the One Who Knows My Heart

Father, revive your Church so we listen carefully when your truth convicts us. Keep us from defensive hearts, empty excuses, and proud denial. Make us humble, teachable, and quick to repent when your word points at us. Let our leaders and your people welcome correction and follow you faithfully, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew Your Church's Hearing

Lord, I confess that I often resist the places where your word shows me my sin. I hide, explain, and protect myself instead of yielding to you. Please soften me, forgive me, and give me courage to agree with what you show me, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

When Your Word Finds Me

Pray by naming one area where you are tempted to be defensive, ask God to show you the truth plainly, and ask for a humble response before you speak back.

Pray for a Teachable Spirit

Pray for pastors, teachers, and other leaders: that they would receive correction with humility, care more about truth than appearance, and respond to God's word with obedience.

For Leaders Who Need to Hear

Bring these thanks to God: that he does not leave hidden things untouched; that his word can reveal what is real; that conviction can lead to healing and change.

Thank God for Truth That Reaches the Heart
