A private pledge with no larger accountability

Speak carefully, because your words stand before God's authority

Use a sacred-sounding oath to make weak promises sound stronger

Keep serious promises only when other people will notice

Treat heaven as harmless emphasis with no moral weight

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned in my words and in my heart, and I need your mercy. I turn from my sin and from trusting myself. I believe you died for me and rose again. I confess you as Lord, and I ask you to rule over my life and my speech. Make me honest, reverent, and wholly yours. Amen.

Receive the Lord of Truth

Lord, revive your Church so that our words no longer treat holy things lightly. Give us awe before your throne, honesty in our speech, and integrity in our promises. Make us a people whose lives point beyond heaven to the King who sits upon the throne, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew Reverence in Your Church

Thank God that his rule is not distant or small, and that heaven is connected to his throne. Thank him that your words and promises are heard by the One who reigns with perfect authority.

Thank You for Your Rule

Before you make a promise today, pause and ask God to search your motives. Name the commitment clearly, ask for grace to keep it, and ask him to help you speak plainly without exaggeration.

Pray Before You Promise

Bring to God any careless words, impressive promises, half-truths, or moments when you used sacred-sounding language to cover weakness. Ask him to forgive you and to give you a clean, truthful tongue.

A Clean and Honest Tongue

Pray for a friend, family member, or leader who needs integrity in speech. Ask God to make their yes trustworthy, their no clear, and their words shaped by his authority.
