Exegesis

The first clause, ouch hos ego thelo {οὐχ ὡς ἐγὼ θέλω | oukh hōs e-gṓ thé-lō}, explicitly states Jesus’ own will, while the second, all hos sy (thelō) {ἀλλ’ ὡς σύ (θέλω) | all hōs sý (thé-lō)}, ellipses the verb “will,” which is understood from the previous clause. The emphatic placement of the pronouns ego and sy heightens the contrast between “I” and “You,” highlighting the surrender of Jesus’ human will to the Father’s will.
