Set aside a short, focused time to stay alert, pray, and pay attention to him

Assume a short nap is harmless and make up for prayer later

Stay busy with religious tasks even if your heart is elsewhere

Wait until you feel more ready before taking the request seriously

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and that my heart has often grown sleepy toward you. I turn from my sin and from trusting myself. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as my Lord and ask you to wake me up to follow you. Come into my life and lead me from this day on. Amen.

Wake My Heart, Lord Jesus

Lord, wake your Church from spiritual sleep. Where we have become distracted, tired, or careless, make us alert again. Teach us to stay with you, pray with you, and endure the hard hour without giving up. Renew our first love and our watchfulness, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Wake Your Church to Watch

Lord, when I am exhausted and prone to drift off, meet me with mercy. Give me strength to stay awake in prayer, to return quickly when I fail, and to trust you in the brief hours that feel hardest, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

For the Weary Disciple

Start by naming one short time today when you can be fully present with God. Ask him to show you what is making you drowsy, to steady your attention, and to help you remain awake and attentive with him during that time.

Pray a Brief Watchful Hour

Pray over these themes: alertness instead of spiritual sleep, perseverance in a short and difficult season, humility when Jesus addresses you personally, and grace to keep watch with him rather than drifting.

Grow in Watchfulness

Pray for: a friend who is spiritually tired; the Church to be more attentive to Jesus; leaders who need courage in a testing hour; and people who need gentle help to wake up and pray.

Pray for Others to Stay Awake
