The remaining people are the ones speaking

They want to see whether Elijah comes to rescue him

They say he should rescue himself instead

They ask for proof from heaven before anything happens

Stand back and wait to see what happens next

Move toward the hurt person with practical help and presence

Keep your distance and talk about it later

Treat their pain like something to observe

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and that I need your mercy. I turn from my sin and from my pride, and I ask you to forgive me. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as Lord and ask you to save me. Come into my life and lead me from death into your rescue. Amen.

Receive the One Who Saves

Lord, revive your Church so we do not stand far away when others are hurting. Deliver us from curiosity without compassion, from hard hearts, and from waiting to help while people suffer. Fill us with mercy, courage, and steady love, and make us quick to move toward the wounded with your care, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Make Us a Compassionate Church

Father, when I feel unseen, watched, or left to bear pain by myself, meet me with your nearness. Keep me from despair, and help me remember that you do not treat my suffering like a spectacle. Hold me up and give me peace, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

When I Feel Left Alone

Lord, forgive me for the times I have stood back from another person's pain, or treated suffering as something to observe. Break my indifference, soften my heart, and make me ready to help instead of merely looking on, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Turn Me from Watching

Pray by naming one person who is suffering, asking God to keep you from being a bystander, and then asking for one concrete way to show mercy today.

Pray for a Hurting Person

Bring these to God: a person who feels overlooked in their pain, courage to respond with presence instead of distance, and a real rescue that only God can give in his time.
