Help in a way that keeps attention on the need, not on your image

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and often wanted people’s approval more than your will. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust you as my Lord and Savior. Give me a new heart that loves what is right even when no one notices. Amen.

Receive Me, Lord Jesus

Lord, revive your Church from showy religion and empty performance. Purify our motives, teach us to love the needy, and make us glad to serve without applause. Let our giving reflect your mercy, not our image, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank God for: his care when no one notices; the freedom to give without self-display; the reward that comes from him rather than human applause.

Before helping someone, pause and name your motive to God. Ask him to free you from the need to be seen, and ask for one quiet way to help that puts the other person’s need first.

Pray for: people who need practical help today; churches and families to notice hidden needs; courage to give kindly and discreetly.

Father, train my heart to value your approval above all. Free me from comparison, teach me to do good quietly, and help me rejoice when only you see. Shape me into a generous disciple, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Therefore, whenever you give alms , do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by people. Truly, I  say to you, they have received their reward.
