Numbers 18:22ExegesisTAB

Numbers 18 : 22 Prohibition | Sanctuary | Consequence
22. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse opens with the prohibitive vav + lo construction in the imperfect, marked by yikrevu {יִקְרְב֥וּ | yiqrĕḇû} ‘draw near.’ The adverb od {עוֹֽד | ʿôḏ} extends the prohibition temporally (‘again’). Benei yisrael {בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל | bənê yiśrāʾēl} designates the Israelite community as subject. The directional phrase el ohel moed {אֶל־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד | ʾel ʼōhēl mōʿēḏ} locates the ban at the sanctuary tent. The infinitive construct chain laset chet lamut {לָשֵׂ֥את חֵ֖טְא לָמֽוּת | lāśēʾeṯ ḥēṭʼ lāmûṯ} functions as a result clause, linking violation to the fatal consequence of sin.
