Numbers 18:28ExegesisTAB

Numbers 18 : 28 Offering | Tithe | Priesthood
28. Linguistic Exegesis
The adverb ken {כֵּן | ken} ‘thus/so’ establishes continuity with earlier commands. The Hiphil imperfect tarimu {תָּרִימוּ | tarimu} ‘you shall lift up’ conveys intentional action by the Levites, reinforced by gam-atem {גַם־אַתֶּם | gam-atem} ‘also you’. The construct terumat Yahweh {תְּרוּמַת יְהוָה | terumat Yahweh} ‘offering of LORD’ marks divine ownership. The prepositional phrase mikol maasroteikhem {מִכֹּל מַעְשְׂרֹתֵיכֶם | mikol maasroteikhem} ‘from all your tithes’ identifies the source. The relative clause asher tikchu meet benei Yisrael {אֲשֶׁר תִּקְחוּ מֵאֵת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל | asher tikchu meet benei Yisrael} ‘which you take from the sons of Israel’ links gift to its origin. The Vav-consecutive unetatem {וּנְתַתֶּם | unetatem} ‘and you shall give’ signals the next act, followed by et-terumat Yahweh {אֶת־תְּרוּמַת יְהוָה | et-terumat Yahweh} ‘offering of LORD’ as object and leaharon hakohen {לְאַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן | leaharon hakohen} ‘to Aaron the priest’ indicating the recipient. This structure preserves Hebrew word order and logical progression.
