Exegesis

Two consecutive relative clauses introduced by asher {אֲשֶׁר | ʼă-šer} ‘which’ link the land first to the promise of inheritance (titnacahlu {תִּתְנַחֲלוּ | tit-nā-ḥă-lū} ‘you will inherit’ with be-gō-rāl {בְּגוֹרָל | bə-gō-rāl} ‘by lot’) and then to the completed divine command (tsivvah {צִוָּ֣ה | ṣîw-wāh} ‘commanded,’ with YHWH {יְהוָ֔ה | Yə-hō-wāh} as subject). The phrase “le-tisha‘at hammatot va-ḥatsi hamatteh” delineates the recipients as nine tribes and one half-tribe.
