Exegesis

The verse employs an asyndetic sequence of three perfect-tense verbs lo-baza {לֹא־בָּזָה | lō-bā-zāh}, ve-lo-shiqets {וְלֹא־שִׁקַּץ | wə-lō-šiqqēṣ}, and ve-lo-histir {וְלֹא־הִסְתִּיר | wə-lō-his-tîr} linked by vav-conjunctions to underline divine nonrejection. Bazah “despise” and shiqets “abhor” form synonymous parallelism intensifying refusal to reject the sufferer, while histir “hide” shifts to physical imagery of averting the face.
