Revelation 19:15ExegesisTAB

Revelation 19 : 15 Judgment | Sovereignty | Retribution
15. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse begins with the coordinating clause kai ek tou stomatos autou ekporeuetai {καὶ ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ ἐκπορεύεται | kaì ek toû stó-matos autoû ek-po-reú-e-tai} ‘and out of His mouth proceeds’, where the genitive prepositional phrase emphasizes source and divine agency. The nominative rhomphaia oxeia {ῥομφαία ὀξεῖα | rhom-phaí-a o-xeî-a} ‘sharp sword’ serves as the instrument of judgment. A purpose clause introduced by hina takes the aorist subjunctive pataxe {πατάξῃ | pa-táx-ē} ‘may strike’ with en aute {ἐν αὐτῇ | en au-tê} ‘with it’, targeting ta ethne {τὰ ἔθνη | tà éth-nē} ‘the nations’. A second clause uses the intensive autos {αὐτός | au-tós} ‘He Himself’ with the future poimanei {ποιμανεῖ | poi-ma-neî} ‘will shepherd’, governing autous {αὐτοὺς | au-toús} ‘them’ with en rhabdo sidera {ἐν ῥάβδῳ σιδηρᾷ | en rháb-dô si-dê-râ} ‘with an iron rod’, evoking firm sovereignty. The final clause again opens with autos and the present patei {πατεῖ | pa-teî} ‘treads’ plus the accusative lenon {ληνὸν | lê-non} ‘winepress’, followed by a stacked genitive chain tou oinou tou thymou tes orges tou theou tou pantokratoros {τοῦ οἴνου τοῦ θυμοῦ τῆς ὀργῆς τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ παντοκράτορος | toû oí-nou toû thu-moû tês or-gês toû the-oû toû pan-to-krá-to-ros} intensifying divine vengeance. The succession of main verbs with purposive and instrumental phrases produces a vivid tripartite depiction of judgment, rule, and retribution.
