10. Formal Translation Furthermore, I have acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon’s wife, to be my wife, for the purpose of raising the dead man’s name over his inheritance and to ensure that his name will not be cut off from among his brothers or at the gate of his town. You are witnesses today. |
10. Dynamic Translation I have also taken Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, in order to preserve the deceased’s name on his inheritance, so that it will not vanish from among his kin or from the gate of his hometown. Today you are witnesses. |
