Zechariah 14 : 7 Uniqueness | Revelation | Light
7. Linguistic Exegesis
This verse opens with vehayah {וְהָיָה | wə-hā-yāh} employing the vav-consecutive perfect to denote future certainty. The emphatic phrase yom-echad {יוֹם־אֶחָד | yōm-ʾeḥād} introduces a singular temporal element, with hu {ה֛וּא | hūʾ} resuming reference. Yivvada {יִוָּדַ֥ע | yiv-vō-ḏāʿ} in the Niphal imperfect conveys passive disclosure, and la-Yahweh {לַיהוָה | la-Yə-hō-wāh} marks the divine cognizer. The paired negatives lo-yom {לֹא־י֣וֹם | lō-yōm} ve-lo-laylah {וְלֹא־לָ֑יְלָה | wə-lō-lāylā} form a merism for absence of day and night. The conjunction vehayah {וְהָיָ֥ה | wə-hā-yāh} introduces the result, with le-et-erev {לְעֵֽת־עֶ֖רֶב | lə-ʿēt-ʿerev} providing a temporal setting, and yihyehor {יִֽהְיֶה־אֽוֹר | yiḥ-yēh-ʾôr} proclaiming the onset of light.
