1 Chronicles 16:8ExegesisTAB

1 Chronicles 16 : 8 Thanksgiving | Invocation | Proclamation
8. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse presents a triadic imperative sequence: hodu {הוֹד֤וּ | hō̆dū} ‘give thanks’, qîrû {קִרְא֣וּ | qîrû} ‘call’, and hôdiʿû {הוֹדִ֥יעוּ | hôdiʿû} ‘make known’. Each verb is followed by a prepositional phrase—lă-Yəhōwāh {לַיהוָה | lă-Yəhōwāh} ‘to the LORD’, bišmô {בִּשְׁמוֹ | bišmô} ‘in His name’, bāʿammîm ʿălilôtāw {בָעַמִּים עֲלִילוֹתָיו | bāʿammîm ʿălilôtāw} ‘among the peoples His deeds’. The construct chain in ʿălilôtāw links ‘deeds’ to the suffix ‘His’, specifying the content of proclamation. This structure forms a parallelism that escalates from gratitude to invocation to global testimony.
