24. Formal Translation
But the men of Israel were pressed that day, for Saul had bound the people under oath, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats food until evening when I have avenged myself on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.
24. Dynamic Translation
The Israelites were distressed that day because Saul made the people take a vow, saying, “Anyone who eats food before evening—before I have obtained vengeance on my enemies—is under a curse!” So nobody among the people tasted anything to eat.
