Genesis 5TAB

This book {sefer: written account} records the generations of Adam. When God {Elohim, Sovereign Creator} created Adam, He made him in God’s likeness.

He {Elohim, Blessing Giver} created them male and female; He blessed them, and He called their name Adam {adam: shared humanity} on the day they were created.

When Adam {adam: first formed man} had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness {bidmuto: patterned resemblance}, after his image, and he called his name Seth.

And the days of Adam {Adam: first human} after he became the father {holid: caused birth} of Seth were 800 years, and he fathered sons and daughters.

Thus all the days {yemei: total lifetime} of Adam {Adam: first man} that he lived were 930 years, and he died.

Seth {Shet: appointed successor} lived for 105 years {shanim: measured life span}, and he fathered Enosh.

And Seth lived {vayechi: extended lifespan} after he fathered Enosh 807 years, and he fathered sons {banim: male offspring} and daughters.

And all the days {yemei: span of years} of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died {vayamot: mortal end}.

And Enosh lived {vayechi: continued earthly life} ninety years and fathered Kenan {Qenan: next generation}.

And Enosh lived after he fathered Kenan {Keinan: generational link} 815 years, and he fathered sons {banim: male descendants} and daughters.

And all the days of Enosh were 905 years {yemei: total lifetime}, and he died {vayamot: ceased to live}.

And Kenan lived {vayechi: extended earthly life} seventy years, and he fathered {vayyoled: became the ancestor} Mahalalel.

And Kenan lived {chayah: extended lifespan} after he fathered Mahalalel 840 years {shanah: numbered life span}, and he fathered sons and daughters.

And all the days {yemei: complete life period} of Kenan were 910 years {shanim: measured life spans}, and he died.

And Mahalalel lived {mahalalel: praise of God} sixty-five years, and he fathered Jared {vayoled: became father}.

And Mahalalel lived after he fathered Jared {Yered: descendant line} 830 years {shanah: extended lifespan}, and he fathered sons and daughters.

So all the days of Mahalalel {Mahalalel: praiser of God} were eight hundred ninety-five years {shanah: fixed timespan}, and he died.

And Jared lived one hundred {meat: full century} and sixty-two years, and he fathered Enoch {Chanokh: dedicated one}.

And Jared {Yered: notable ancestor} lived after he fathered Enoch eight hundred years {shmonah meot shanah: extended lifespan}, and he fathered sons and daughters.

And all the days of Jared {Yered: patriarchal ancestor} were 962 years {shanah: measured lifespan}, and he died.

And Enoch {Chanokh: devoted one} lived sixty-five years, and he fathered Methuselah {Metushelach: notable descendant}.

And Enoch {Chanokh: dedicated one} walked with God {haElohim, Divine Companion} after he fathered Methuselah for 300 years, and he fathered sons and daughters.

And all the days {yemei: complete lifetime} of Enoch were 365 years {shanah: numbered years}.

And Enoch walked {vayithalekh: ongoing devoted conduct} with God {Elohim, Sovereign Life-Ruler}; and he was not, for God took him.

And Methuselah {Metushelach: man of the dart} lived 187 years {shanah: measured time}, and he fathered Lamech.

And Methuselah {Metushelach: long-lived patriarch} lived after he fathered Lamech for 782 years {sheva meot shanah u-shemonim u-shtayim shanah: seven hundred and eighty-two years in Hebrew order}, and he fathered sons and daughters.

All the days of Methuselah {Metushelach: man of dart} were 969 years {shanah: measured years}, and he died.

And Lamech {Lemekh: genealogy figure} lived one hundred eighty-two years {shanah: measured lifespan}, and he fathered a son.

And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us from our work {maaseinu: burdensome labor} and from the painful toil of our hands, because of the ground that the LORD {YHWH, Righteous Judge} has cursed.”

And Lamech lived after he fathered Noah {Noach: comfort-bringer} five hundred ninety-five years, and he fathered sons {banim: male offspring} and daughters.

And all the days of Lamech {Lemekh: seventh from Adam} were 777 years {shanah: counted time}, and he died.

And Noah {Noach: Ark Builder} was five hundred years {shanah: counted years} old, and Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
