John 16:14ExegesisTAB

John 16 : 14 Glory | Revelation | Mediation
14. Linguistic Exegesis
The clause opens with the fronted demonstrative subject ekeinos {ἐκεῖνος | e-keî-nos} ‘that one,’ which points back to the Spirit already in view in the discourse. The object eme {ἐμὲ | e-mé} ‘me’ is placed before the verb doxasei {δοξάσει | doxá-sei} ‘will glorify,’ giving Jesus prominence before the action is stated. The conjunction hoti {ὅτι | hó-ti} ‘because’ introduces an explanatory clause that gives the reason and manner of that glorification. Within it, ek tou emou {ἐκ τοῦ ἐμοῦ | ek tou e-moû} forms a source-and-possession construction: ek marks origin, while the articular genitive turns the phrase into “from what is mine.” The future middle lempsetai {λήμψεται | lḗ-mpse-tai} ‘will receive’ presents the subject as actively taking up what belongs to Christ, and the coordinated future active anangellei {ἀναγγελεῖ | a-nang-ge-leî} ‘will announce’ advances the movement from reception to disclosure. The dative hymin {ὑμῖν | hy-mîn} ‘to you’ marks the disciples as the indirect recipients. The sentence thus moves from Christ’s possession, to the Spirit’s reception, to the disciples’ hearing, making revelation the means by which Jesus is glorified.
