Because the authorities had ordered the body moved somewhere else

Because the tomb was far away and no other place was available

Because they were waiting for a later feast to begin

Because the preparation day for the Jews had come and the burial place was nearby

It was the day for preparation among the Jews

They waited until after the Sabbath before acting

Wait until conditions feel perfect before doing anything

Do the needed task promptly and carefully, even if it is ordinary

Choose a more visible task and leave the practical one undone

Spend the time explaining the obstacle instead of acting

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and that I cannot save myself. I turn from my sin and trust that you died for my sins and rose again. Father, thank you that Jesus was truly laid in the tomb and that no detail of his burial was outside your care. Thank you that the grave was not the end of his story, and that your saving work was moving even in that quiet moment.
