Receive Jesus because he comes from the Father, not because he flatters pride

Give equal trust to every confident speaker, because confidence proves truth

Prefer the person who promotes himself, because self-promotion is a sign of strength

Focus only on popularity and ignore where the message comes from

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, you came from the Father, and I have not received you as I should. I confess my sin, my pride, and my need for mercy. I turn from following myself and from trusting what only flatters me. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I receive you now as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Receive the Son Sent by the Father

Lord, revive your Church to receive Jesus gladly, to honor the One you sent, and to stop chasing what is only self-made. Make us humble, discerning, and eager for your Son. Let our love for Christ be stronger than our hunger for applause, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Your Church to Receive Christ

Pray by naming one voice or influence that competes for your trust. Ask God to show you whether it points to Jesus and the Father's will, or only to itself. Then ask for the courage to follow what is from him.

Pray for Discernment

Thank God for Jesus coming with the Father's authority; thank him that Christ still comes to you even when you resist; thank him for the mercy that keeps calling you back.

Thanksgiving for Jesus' Faithful Coming

Father, train my heart to welcome Jesus and to resist anything that merely flatters my pride. Help me value your authority above applause, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Pray for: people who are drawn to self-promoting teachers; those who struggle to receive Jesus because he confronts pride; opportunities for humble witness that points back to Christ.
