Some Pharisees reject the man because he does not keep the Sabbath.

Everyone in the group reaches the same conclusion.

Slow down, compare the claims, and keep listening.

Pick the side that sounds most confident.

Treat rule-keeping as the only test and ignore the signs.

Decide the issue is pointless because disagreement proves nothing can be known.

Lord, revive your Church where we have become quick to judge and slow to see what you are doing. Give us humility to honor your work, courage to stand for truth, and compassion when others are divided. Make us one in faith and faithful in witness, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Pray by naming one disagreement that has been weighing on you. Ask God to keep you from quick conclusions, to show you what is from him, and to give you a calm heart that listens before speaking.

Bring to God the relationships that feel strained by disagreement, the need to keep listening with respect, and the grace to seek unity without pretending truth does not matter.

For People Divided Over God’s Work

Lord, thank you for the signs that reveal your heart and your work. Keep me from missing what you are doing because I am clinging to my own opinions. Teach me to receive your truth with gratitude and humility, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank You for Signs That Point to You

Confess before God any tendency to decide too fast, to trust appearances, or to divide before listening. Ask him to soften your heart, sharpen your discernment, and make you willing to be corrected.
