| 20. Formal Translation And if a man lies with a female slave who is promised to another man, but she has neither been redeemed nor granted freedom, a penalty shall be imposed; they shall not be put to death, because she is not free. |
| 20. Dynamic Translation If a man sleeps with a female slave who is promised to another man, but she has not been ransomed or granted her freedom, a penalty must be imposed; they will not be put to death, since she remains unfree. |
