1 And the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Lawgiver} spoke to Moses, saying {lemor: prophetic speech formula},
2 Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, “You shall be holy, for I, the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheichem, Holiness Source}, am holy {kadosh: set apart}.”
3 Each person must fear {tirau: revere with awe} his mother and his father, and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant-Keeping Ruler}.
4 Do not turn to idols {elilim: worthless things} or make for yourselves molten metal gods. I am the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Upholder} your God.
5 And when you offer a peace offering to the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Giver}, you shall offer it for your acceptance {ratson: approval before God}.
6 On the day of your sacrifice {zivach: ritual offering}, and on the following day it shall be eaten; but what remains until the third day must be burned in the fire {esh: consuming flame}.
7 And if any of the meat {heʾakhol: that which is to be eaten} is eaten on the third day, it is an abomination {piggul: ritually rejected}; it will not be accepted.
8 And whoever eats it will bear his guilt {avon: moral liability}, because he has profaned what is holy to the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Sanctifier}; and that person shall be cut off from among his people.
9 And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not finish the edge {p’eat: boundary portion} of your field, and you shall not gather the gleanings {leket: dropped stalks} of your harvest.
10 And you shall not glean {te'olel: leftover harvest} your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard. For the poor and the foreigner you shall leave them. I am the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheichem, Covenant Commander}.
11 You shall not steal {tignōwū: unlawfully take} or deny falsely {tekhaḥaššû: refuse the truth} or lie to one another.
12 And you shall not swear falsely by My name, nor shall you profane the name of your God {Eloheicha, Covenant Authority}. I am the LORD {YHWH, Lawgiver}.
13 You shall not oppress your neighbor {re’a: fellow Israelite} or rob them. You shall not withhold the wages {pe’ulat: timely payment} of a hired worker with you until morning.
14 You shall not curse the deaf nor place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God {Eloheicha: Divine Authority}; I am the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Lawgiver}.
15 You shall not do injustice in the judgment; you shall not show partiality to the poor nor honor the face of the great, but in righteousness {tsedek: covenant faithfulness} you shall judge your neighbor {amitecha: fellow member}.
16 You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people; you shall not stand against the blood {dam: life force} of your neighbor. I {YHWH, Moral Lawgiver} am the LORD.
17 You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you shall surely rebuke your neighbor {amitekha: companion}, and you shall not bear sin {chet: moral offense} because of him.
18 You shall not take vengeance {tiqqom: retributive justice} or bear a grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD {YHWH, Moral Arbiter}.
19 You shall keep my statutes {chukotai: Enduring Ordinances}. You shall not permit your animal to breed with a different kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seeds. And you shall not wear a garment {sha’atnez: Interwoven Fibers} of mixed material.
20 And if a man lies {yishkav: engages in intercourse} with a female slave who is promised to another man, but she has neither been redeemed nor granted freedom, a penalty shall be imposed {bikoret: disciplinary penalty}; they shall not be put to death, because she is not free.
21 And he shall bring his guilt offering to the LORD {YHWH, Atonement Receiver} at the entrance of the tent of meeting, a ram as a guilt offering {asham: reparative sacrifice}.
22 And the priest will make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Restorer} for his sin {chatat: offense against holiness} which he has committed, and he will be forgiven for his sin which he has committed.
23 And when you come into the land and plant every tree for food, you shall regard its fruit as uncircumcised {arelim: ritually forbidden}; for three years it shall be uncircumcised to you, and it shall not be eaten {piryo: agricultural produce}.
24 And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy—an offering of praise {hillulim: joyful celebration} to the LORD {YHWH, Sustainer of Covenant}.
25 And in the fifth year you shall eat its fruit to increase {lehosif: cause to grow} its yield for you. I am the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant Giver}.
26 You shall not eat with the blood {dam: life-force}, you shall not practice divination {tenakhashu: forbidden insight}, and you shall not interpret omens.
27 You shall not round {takkifu: remove the sides} the corners of your head, and you shall not destroy {tashchit: cause ruin} the corners of your beard.
28 You shall not make an incision {seret: ritual cut} for a soul in your flesh, and you shall not put engraving on yourselves. I am the LORD {YHWH, Holy Sovereign}.
29 Do not profane {techallel: treat as common} your daughter by making her a prostitute, and do not prostitute the land, or the land will be filled with depravity {zimmah: moral corruption}.
30 You shall keep my Sabbaths {shabbetotai: appointed rest days} and revere my sanctuary; I am the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Sanctifier}.
31 Do not turn to the mediums or to the spiritists, and do not seek them out, lest you become unclean by them. I am the LORD {YHWH, Divine Legislator} your God {Elohim, Righteous Judge}.
32 You shall stand up before the aged {seivah: gray-haired elder} and show honor to the face of the old man. And you shall fear your God {Eloheicha, Revered Judge}. I am the LORD.
33 And when a sojourner {ger: resident alien} sojourns with you in your land, you shall not mistreat {tonu: cause harm} him.
34 As the native-born among you, the foreigner {ger: outsider-within} who sojourns with you shall be like one born among you; and you shall love him as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Covenant Legislator}.
35 You shall not commit injustice in judgment {mishpat: legal decision} or in measurement {middah: length standard}, in weight or in quantity.
36 You must have balances of justice {tsedeq: righteous accuracy}, weights of justice, an ephah of justice, and a hin of justice. I am the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikhem, Law Giver} who brought you out from the land of Egypt.
37 And you shall keep all my statutes {chukotai: fixed statutes} and all my ordinances, and you shall carry them out. I {YHWH, Lawgiver} am the LORD.
