| 17. Formal Translation If a man takes his sister, whether his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter, and he sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness, it is a disgrace. They shall be cut off in the sight of the sons of their people; for he has uncovered his sister’s nakedness, and he shall bear his iniquity. |
| 17. Dynamic Translation If a man marries his sister, whether she is his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter, and they expose each other’s nakedness, it is a shameful act. The people must publicly exclude them; for he exposed his sister’s nakedness, he must bear responsibility. |
