Leviticus 22:27ExegesisTAB

Leviticus 22 : 27 Birth | Motherhood | Sacrifice
27. Linguistic Exegesis
The Hebrew opens with a three-term enumeration joined by o {אוֹ | ʾō} 'or', introducing alternative sacrificial animals. The protasis begins with kî {כִּי | kî} 'when/if', governing yiwāleḏ {יִוָּלֵד | yīwāleḏ} 'is born'. The vav consecutive wə-hāyāh {וְהָיָה | wə-hāyāh} 'then it shall be' signals progression to the temporal requirement marked by šivʿat yāmîm {שִׁבְעַת יָמִים | šivʿat yāmîm} 'seven days' and the spatial phrase taḥat immō {תַּחַת אִמּוֹ | taḥat ʾimmō} 'under its mother'. The status shift is encoded in ū-miyyōm ha-šəmīnî wā-hālāʾ {וּמִיּוֹם הַשְּׁמִינִי וָהָלְאָה | ū-miyyōm ha-šəmīnî wā-hālāʾ} 'from the eighth day onward', where the Nifal yērāṣeh {יֵרָצֶה | yērāṣeh} 'it will be accepted' functions quasi-passively to foreground divine reception. The Lamed infinitive lə-qārəbān ʾiššeh la-yəhōwāh {לְקָרְבָּן אִשֶּׁה לַיהוָה | lə-qārəbān ʾiššeh la-yəhōwāh} 'for a fire offering to the LORD' expresses purpose, completing a flow from birth through nurturing to consecration and emphasizing divine agency in sacrificial law.
