Luke 21:1ExegesisTAB

Luke 21 : 1 Observation | Wealth | Offerings
1. Linguistic Exegesis
The opening participial phrase anablepsas {Ἀναβλέψας | anablépsas} ‘having looked up’ provides the temporal framework for the scene and transitions from the narrative introduction into active observation. The conjunction de {δὲ | dè} simply continues the narrative flow. The main verb eiden {εἶδεν | eîden} ‘He saw’ establishes the perceptual focus and takes as its object the articular participle tous ballontas {τοὺς βάλλοντας | toùs bállontas} ‘the ones putting,’ which foregrounds the action of depositors. The prepositional phrase eis to gazophylakion {εἰς τὸ γαζοφυλάκιον | eis tò gazophylákion} sets the destination before the items, creating a deliberate observational emphasis. The phrase ta dora auton {τὰ δῶρα αὐτῶν | tà dôra autôn} specifies what is being placed and the possessors, while plousious {πλουσίους | ploúsious} characterizes the givers by their wealth. English renders the participial construction as a finite clause for readability while preserving the emphasis on the social status of the subjects.
