1 And having looked up, He {Iesous, Watchful Teacher} saw the rich placing their gifts {dora: voluntary offerings} into the treasury.
2 And He {Iesous, Attentive Witness} also observed a certain poor widow {cheran: bereaved woman} dropping in two coins there.
3 And He {Authoritative Teacher} said, “Truly I say to you, this poor {ptoche: lacking resources} widow has put in more than all of them.”
4 For all these contributed from what was left over to the gifts {dora: temple offerings}, but she, from her shortage, put in all the livelihood {bion: means of support} she had.
5 And while some people were discussing the temple, saying how it had been adorned with fine stones and offerings, He {Iesous, Discerning Teacher} said {eipen: solemnly declared},
6 As for these things that you are seeing, days {hemerai: coming time} will come when not one stone will be left upon another that will not be thrown down {kataluthesetai: utterly demolished}.
7 So they put the question to Him {Iesous, Authoritative Teacher}, saying, “Teacher, when then will these things be, and what will the sign {semeion: Confirming Indicator} be when these things are about to happen?”
8 Then He {Iesous, Warning Teacher} said, “Keep watch so that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name {onoma: claimed authority}, saying, ‘I am the one,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Do not follow them.”
9 But whenever you hear of wars and unrest {akatastasias: public disorder}, do not be terrified, for these things must happen first, but the end {telos: appointed conclusion} will not be immediate.
10 Then He {Iesous, Prophetic Speaker} was saying to them, “Nation {ethnos: people group} will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.”
11 There will be great earthquakes {seismoi: violent shakings}, and famines and pestilences in many places; there will also be terrors {phobetra: fearful omens} and great signs from heaven.
12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute {dioko: hostile pursuit} you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, being brought before kings and governors for the sake of My {Iesous, Covenant Lord} name.
13 It will turn out {apobesetai: resulting outcome} for you {humin: addressed disciples} as a testimony.
14 Therefore, settle {thete: deliberate resolve} in your hearts not to plan beforehand how to answer {apologethenai: legal defense}.
15 For I {Iesous, Equipping Teacher} will give you a mouth and wisdom {sophian: ready insight}, which all those opposing you will not be able to withstand or answer back.
16 But you will be handed over even by parents and brothers and relatives {syngenon: broad kin circle} and friends, and they will put {thanatosousin: carry out execution} some of you to death.
17 And you will be hated {misoumenoi: ongoing hostility} by all because of My {Iesous, Rejected Messiah} name.
18 Yet not even a hair {thrix: smallest part} from your head will perish {apollumi: be destroyed}.
19 By your endurance {hypomone: steadfast perseverance}, gain your souls {psyche: whole self}.
20 But when you see Jerusalem {Ierousalem: city under judgment} encircled by armies, then discern that her desolation {eremosis: devastating ruin} has drawn near.
21 Then let those who are in Judea {Ioudaia: southern Jewish region} flee to the mountains, and let those who are in the midst {meso: inner core} of her withdraw, and let those who are in the regions not enter into her.
22 Because these are days of retribution {ekdikesis: just repayment}, so everything that has been written {gegrammena: enduring record} may be brought to completion.
23 Woe to those who are pregnant {en gastri echousais: with child} and to those who are nursing {thilazousais: feeding infants} in those days, for there will be great distress on the land and wrath on this people.
24 And they will fall by the sword {machaira: lethal violence}, and they will be taken captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the nations until the times {kairoi: appointed seasons} of the nations are fulfilled.
25 There will be signs {semeia: warning markers} in the sun and moon and stars; and on the earth there will be distress among the nations in perplexity at the sound of the sea and its surging {salos: violent tossing}.
26 People will collapse {apopsychonton: losing strength} from fear and expectation of what is coming upon the inhabited world {oikoumene: human world}, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
27 Then they will behold the Son of Man {huios tou anthropou, Eschatological Judge} coming in a cloud with mighty power and radiant glory {doxa: Radiant Splendor}.
28 But as these things begin {archomenon: onset of events} to unfold, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption {apolytrosis: release by ransom} is drawing near.
29 And He spoke a parable {parabolen: illustrative saying} to them: “Look at the fig tree {syken: seasonal sign} and all the trees.”
30 When they have already put forth {probalosin: fresh growth}, seeing {blepontes: direct sight} for yourselves, you know that the summer is already near.
31 In the same way, whenever you see these things taking place, know that the kingdom of God {Theos, Sovereign King} is near {engys: close at hand}.
32 Truly {amen: solemn assurance}, I tell you that this generation will by no means pass away until all things {panta: every event} have come about.
33 The sky and the earth will vanish, but My {Iesous, Sovereign Speaker} words {logoi: steadfast declarations} will certainly not vanish.
34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation {kraipale: Excessive Indulgence} and drunkenness and anxieties {merimnais: Life Pressures} of life, and that day come upon you suddenly.
35 For, like a snare {pagis: sudden entrapment}, it will come upon all who are dwelling on the surface {prosopon: visible expanse} of the whole earth.
36 But stay awake {agrypneite: constant vigilance} at all times, praying so that you may prevail to escape all these things that are about to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man {huios tou anthropou, End-Time Judge}.
37 He {Iesous, Steady Teacher} was in the temple {hieron: sacred precincts} during the days, teaching, but at night, going out, He would lodge on the mount called Olives.
38 And all the people {laos: gathered crowd} were coming early to Him {Iesous, Authoritative Teacher} in the temple, to hear Him.
