14. Formal Translation And after they came, they said to Him, “Teacher, we know that you are true {alethes: honest, reliable}, and you do not care about anyone; for you do not look at the face of men, but in truth you teach the way of God {Theos, Standard of Truth}. Is it permitted to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Should we give, or should we not give?” |
14. Dynamic Translation So when they arrived, they said to Him, “Teacher, we know that you are honest and do not worry about what people think—you are not influenced by appearances, but you teach the way of God {Theos, Moral Lawgiver} in line with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay, or should we not pay?” |
