The hearers are told to go out and welcome him

The people are told to keep waiting quietly

Move toward him promptly instead of delaying

Wait for a more convenient moment before responding

Treat the announcement as interesting but not urgent

Focus only on your own preparations and ignore the call

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and have not lived ready for you. I need your mercy and your rescue. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and come to you as my Lord and Savior. Make me ready for your coming and teach me to follow you. Amen.

Come Out to Meet the Bridegroom

Lord, awaken your Church from spiritual sleep. Make us hear your call quickly, burn away delay and distraction, and ready us to welcome Christ with joy when he comes. Let us be alert, eager, and faithful, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Wake Your Church at Midnight

Pray by naming one place where you have been delaying obedience, ask God to make you attentive to his voice, and ask for one simple step that will help you respond quickly.

Pray for Readiness

Thank God for Jesus coming near, for his call that reaches people even in the night, and for the gift of being invited to meet him.

Thank You for the Bridegroom's Coming

Pray for people who are distracted, asleep, or unsure, that the announcement of Christ would wake them, and that they would turn toward him with faith and joy.

For Those Who Are Not Ready

Father, keep my heart awake, my hands ready, and my steps quick to obey. When you call, help me respond without delay and live with joyful expectation, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Keep Me Watchful
