That he had done wrong by handing over an innocent person

That he had only obeyed orders and was not responsible

That the others had pushed him into the deed

That he had merely made a harmless mistake

They offered to make the wrong right for him.

Treat it as a small lapse that needs no confession

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and cannot make myself clean. I turn from my sin and from every excuse I have made. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. Forgive me, cleanse me, and lead me as my Lord. Amen.

Come to Jesus in Honest Repentance

Lord, revive your Church where we have grown casual about sin and quick to shift blame. Give us courage to confess truth, tenderness toward the innocent, and hearts that do not turn cold when wrong is exposed. Wake us up to repentance and holiness, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive a Truthful Church

Father, I bring you the places where I have blamed others, minimized harm, or avoided the truth. Give me courage to say what is true, to admit what I have done, and to make it right where I can. Cleanse my heart and steady my steps, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Owning My Wrong

Name one thing you have done that you keep excusing. Ask God to show you the truth, to give you courage to confess it plainly, and to point you to one person you may need to speak to or help.

Praying Through a Weighty Wrong

Bring thanks for any conviction that is leading you toward honesty; thank God that he does not leave us trapped in denial; thank him for mercy strong enough to meet repentance.

Giving Thanks for a Tender Conscience

Pray for someone who has done wrong and feels crushed by it, that they would stop hiding and find courage to tell the truth. Pray also for those tempted to respond with coldness, that God would give them compassion and a willingness to help repair what has been broken.

Praying for the Guilty and the Coldhearted
