They defended Jesus while others mocked him

They changed the subject to avoid conflict

Refuse to join in and answer with reverence

Stay neutral and act as if it is not serious

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and need your mercy. Even when people insulted you, you endured the cross for me. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and receive you as my Lord and Savior. Lead my life from this day forward. Amen.

Receive the One Rejected

Lord, when the men beside Jesus joined in contempt, it exposed how quickly words can become cruel. Revive your Church so we do not echo the world's sneers, but honor your Son with boldness, purity, and compassion for the mocked and rejected, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Reverence in Your Church

Father, forgive me for the times I have joined harsh talk, repeated an insult, or stayed silent when contempt was easy. Turn my heart from cruelty to reverence, and teach me to speak in a way that honors Jesus and protects the wounded, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Cleanse My Speech

Bring these to God: gratitude for Jesus' patience under shame; praise for his refusal to answer contempt with contempt; thanks that he understands rejection firsthand; worship for the mercy that reaches even mockers.

Grateful for His Steadfastness

Pray by naming one situation where you are tempted to echo a cutting comment. Ask God for a pause, for words that are reverent instead of cruel, and for courage to stand with Jesus when the room turns mocking.

Pause Before You Join In

Pray for: people who are laughed at or belittled; those who suffer more because others speak cruelly around them; and a gentle, courageous heart in you that notices pain quickly and responds with mercy.

For the Mocked and Overlooked
