Demand an equal exchange before giving anything

Refuse to give up the shirt until the case is settled

Someone asking to take your inner garment

Being told to yield your outer garment too

A command to strike back or make them pay

Yield the demanded thing and do not cling to the bare minimum

Give only what you must, so no one can say you were unreasonable

Agree outwardly but plan to get even later

Refuse all cooperation so you are never taken advantage of again

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and that I cannot make myself right with God. I turn from my sin and from trusting my own goodness. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as Lord, and I ask you to make me new. Teach me to follow you in humility, peace, and trust. Amen.

Receive the Lord Who Gives More

Lord, revive your Church so we do not cling to our rights more tightly than we cling to you. Make us gentle when we are opposed, generous when we are wronged, and peaceful when others press us. Free us from pride, fear, and retaliation, and shape us into people who show your kingdom in costly love, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Your People to Yield Peace

Father, where I am gripping my rights, my comfort, or the need to win, help me open my hands. Teach me to release what I can release and to trust you with what I cannot keep. Give me a generous spirit when I am treated unfairly, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hands Open Before You

Pray by naming one situation where you feel defensive, asking God to soften your heart, and asking for one gracious response you can give instead of escalating the moment.

Pray Before You React

Bring these before God: people facing legal pressure or unfair treatment; those tempted to retaliate; neighbors who need peace where there has been conflict; and your own heart where fear makes you grasp tightly.

Peace in Unfair Places

Thank God for Jesus' teaching that goes beyond the minimum; give thanks for his power to form a non-defensive heart; and praise him that his kingdom can turn loss into a witness of generosity.

Thanks for a Better Way
