A Psalm {mizmor: lyrical prayer} of David, when he fled from Absalom {Avshalom: rebellious son} his son.
LORD {YHWH, Mighty Rescuer}, how many are my adversaries! Many are rising against me {alay: hostile opposition}.
Many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God {Elohim, Saving Defender}.” Selah {selah: pause and consider}.
But You, LORD {YHWH, Shielding Protector}, are a shield around me, my glory {kavodi: honored standing} and the One who lifts up my head.
With my voice {qoli: Earnest Plea} I cry to the LORD {YHWH, Prayer Hearer}, and He answers me from His holy hill. Selah.
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Upholder} supports {yismekheni: holds up, stabilizes} me.
I will not fear {ira: deep inner dread} tens of thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around {saviv: full encirclement}.
Arise, LORD {YHWH, Warrior Deliverer}; save me, my God {Elohai, Divine Defender}. For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have broken the teeth of the wicked.
Salvation belongs to the LORD {YHWH, Mighty Deliverer}; Your {addressed to YHWH: source of blessing} blessing is upon Your people. Selah.
