1 When I call, answer me, O God of my righteousness {Elohei tsidqi, Righteous Judge}. In distress {batsar: constricting trouble} You widened a place for me. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
2 O sons of men, how long will you make my glory a disgrace {likhlimah: public disgrace}? How long will you love vanity {rik: hollow emptiness} and pursue falsehood? Selah.
3 But know that the LORD {YHWH, Covenant LORD} has set apart the godly one {chasid: faithful covenant-loyal} for Himself; the LORD will hear when I call to Him.
4 Be stirred {rigzu: shake with awe}, and do not sin; speak in your hearts upon your beds {mishkavkhem: night rest}, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer sacrifices of righteousness {tzedek: just and faithful}, and place your trust in the LORD {YHWH, Steadfast Protector}.
6 Many are saying, “Who will show us good {tov: true well-being}?” Lift up the light of Your face upon us, LORD {YHWH, Gracious Favor-Giver}.
7 You {Elohim, Giver of Inner Joy} have placed in my heart {lev: emotional center} gladness that surpasses the yield of their grain and new wine.
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You, LORD {YHWH, Trusted Keeper}, alone {levadad: entirely by Yourself} make me dwell in safety.
