2 And the sons{ bene: genealogical heirs} of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron{khevron: clan branch}, and Uzziel.
3 The sons {benei: lineage term} of Amram {Amram: family father} were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
4 Eleazar fathered {holid: genealogical begetting} Phinehas; Phinehas fathered Abishua {avishua: Father Is Deliverance}.
5 And Abishua {avishua: priestly ancestor} fathered {holid: lineage formula} Bukki, and Bukki fathered Uzzi.
6 And Uzzi {uzzi: priestly forefather} became the father of Zerahiah, and Zerahiah became the father of Meraioth {merayoth: descendant listed}.
7 Meraioth fathered{holid: begot line} Amariah{amaryah: Yah spoke}, and Amariah fathered Ahitub.
8 And Ahitub fathered{holid: ancestral begetting} Zadok, and Zadok fathered Ahimaaz{ahimaats: son in line}.
9 And Ahimaaz fathered {holid: line of descent} Azariah {azaryah: priestly heir}, and Azariah fathered Johanan.
10 And Johanan fathered Azariah; he was the one who served as priest {kihen: officiated worship} in the house {bayit: sacred building} that Solomon built in Jerusalem.
11 And Azariah {azaryah: Yah Has Helped} begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub {achituv: Brother Is Good}.
12 And Ahitub fathered Zadok {tsadok: priestly successor}, and Zadok fathered Shallum {shallum: next generation}.
13 And Shallum fathered Hilkiah {hilqiyyah: Yah's portion}, and Hilkiah fathered Azariah {azaryah: Yah has helped}.
14 And Azariah {azaryah: Yah Helps} fathered Seraiah, and Seraiah fathered Jehozadak {yehotzadak: Yah Makes Righteous}.
15 And Jehozadak went into exile when the LORD {YHWH, Judge of Nations} exiled Judah and Jerusalem by the hand {b’yad: acting through the agency of} of Nebuchadnezzar.
16 The sons of Levi {Levi: third son of Jacob} were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari {Merari: youngest son}.
17 And these are the names {shemot: identity markers} of the sons {bnei: family descendants} of Gershom: Libni and Shimei.
18 And the sons {ben: hereditary line} of Kohath {Qehat: Levitical family head} were Amram, Yitzhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi, and these are the families {mishpechot: clan divisions} of the Levites according to their fathers {avot: ancestral heads}.
20 To Gershom {Gershom: Levite founder} belonged Libni his son {ben: direct male descendant}, Yachat his son, Zimmah his son.
21 Joah{yoach: Levite name}, his son; Iddo, his son; Zerah, his son; Jeatherai{ye'ethray: later descendant}, his son.
22 The sons {bnei: male descendants} of Kohath were Amminadav his son {beno: singular direct descendant}, Korah his son, and Assir his son.
23 Elkanah {elqanah: Levite forefather}, his son {beno: filial link}, and Ebiasaph, his son, and Assir, his son.
24 Tahath, his son {ben: male descendant}, Uriel, his son {ben: paternal successor}, Uzziah, his son, and Shaul, his son.
25 And the sons {benei: male descendants} of Elkanah {Elqanah: God has acquired} were Amasai and Ahimoth.
26 Elkanah {elqanah: lineage head} his son; Zophai {tsophai: clan founder} his son; and Nahath his son.
27 Eliab {Eliav: Levitical Forebear}, his son; Jeroham, his son; Elkanah {Elqanah: Kohathite Forebear}, his son.
28 And the sons of Samuel{shemu'el: God's Prophet} were the firstborn{bekhor: Eldest Son} Joel and the second Abijah.
29 The sons {bnei: genealogical term} of Merari {Merari: clan ancestor} were Mahli; Libni his son; Shimei his son; and Uzzah his son.
30 Shimea {shim'a: Levite ancestor} his son; Haggiyah his son; Asaiah his son {bno: genealogical link}.
31 And these are the ones whom David stationed for the hands of song {shir: sacred music ministry} in the house of the LORD {YHWH, Worship Dwelling} after the resting of the ark.
32 And they served before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, with song, until Solomon built the house of the LORD {YHWH, Worship Center} in Jerusalem. Then they stood according to their custom for their service {avodah: sacred work}.
33 And these are the ones who stood {ha'omedim: serving in attendance} with their sons, from the sons of the Kohathite: Heman the musician {hameshorer: leader of song}, son of Joel, son of Samuel.
34 The son {ben: line of descent} of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel {Eli’el: God Is My God}, the son of Toah.
35 The son {ben: generational descendant} of Zuph {tsuf: honeycomb region}, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai.
36 The son {ben: direct male descendant} of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah {tsefanyah: YHWH has hidden}.
37 The son of Tahath {tachat: Levitical family}, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah {Korach: priestly founder}.
38 The son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi {lēwī: founder of priestly tribe}, the son of Israel {yiśrāʾēl: name of Jacob}.
39 And his brother Asaph, the one standing {ha-omed: the one serving} at his right hand {yemino: seat of honor}, Asaph the son of Berechiah, son of Shimea.
40 The son {ben: direct succession} of Michael {michaʾel: Who Is Like God}, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malkijah.
41 The son of Ethni {etni: clan eponym}, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah {adaiah: God has adorned}.
42 The son of Ethan {eitan: enduring one}, the son of Zimmah and the son of Shimei {shim‘i: one who hears}.
43 The son {ben: filial connection} of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi {Levi: ancestral founder}.
44 And the sons of Merari {merari: Levite clan founder}, their brothers, were on the left side: Eitan {eitan: enduring one}, son of Kishi, son of Abdi, son of Malluk.
45 The son {ben: lineage designator} of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah {hilkiyah: portion of YHWH}.
46 The son {ben: descent indicator} of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer {shemer: Levitical ancestor}.
47 The son {ben: immediate heir} of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi {lewi: founding ancestor}.
48 And their brothers, the Levites, were assigned to all the service {avodah: ritual duties} of the tabernacle of the house of God {Elohim, Sanctuary Sovereign}.
49 And Aaron and his sons were making offerings on the altar of the burnt offering and on the altar of incense, for all the work of the Most Holy Place {haqodashim: inner sanctuary}, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses, the servant of God {Elohim, Worship Ordainer}, commanded.
50 And these are the sons of Aaron {Aharon: first High Priest}, Eleazar {El‘azar: God has helped} his son, Phinehas his son, and Abishua his son.
