Source Text: Hebrew (WLC) Deuteronomy 22:24:1 ⧉וְהוֹצֵאתֶ֣םvehotseetemthen you shall bring out Deuteronomy 22:24:2 ⧉אֶת־שְּׁנֵיהֶ֗םetshnehemboth of them Deuteronomy 22:24:3 ⧉אֶל־שַׁ֥עַרelshaarto the gate Deuteronomy 22:24:4 ⧉הָעִ֖ירhairof the city Deuteronomy 22:24:5 ⧉וּסְקַלְתֶּם־אֹתָ֥םusekaltemotamand you shall stone them Deuteronomy 22:24:6 ⧉בָּאֲבָנִ֑יםbaavanimwith stones Deuteronomy 22:24:7 ⧉וָמֵ֑תוּvametuand they shall die Deuteronomy 22:24:8 ⧉אֶת־הַנַּעֲרָ֣הethanaarathe young woman Deuteronomy 22:24:9 ⧉עַל־דְּבַ֗רaldevarbecause of Deuteronomy 22:24:10 ⧉אֲשֶׁ֤רasherbecause Deuteronomy 22:24:11 ⧉לֹא־צָעֲקָ֙ה֙lotsaakashe did not cry out Deuteronomy 22:24:12 ⧉בָּעִ֔ירbairin the city Deuteronomy 22:24:13 ⧉וְהָאִ֖ישׁvehaishand the man Deuteronomy 22:24:14 ⧉עַל־דְּבַ֣רaldevarbecause of Deuteronomy 22:24:15 ⧉אֲשֶׁר־עִנָּ֗הasherinabecause he humbled Deuteronomy 22:24:16 ⧉אֶת־אֵ֣שֶׁתeteshetthe wife of Deuteronomy 22:24:17 ⧉רֵעֵ֔הוּreehuhis neighbor Deuteronomy 22:24:18 ⧉וּבִעַ֖רְתָּuviartaso you shall purge Deuteronomy 22:24:19 ⧉הָרָ֥עharathe evil Deuteronomy 22:24:20 ⧉מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃mikirbekhafrom your midst |
| 24. Formal Translation And you shall bring out the two of them to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them with stones so that they die—the young woman on account of the matter that she did not cry out in the city, and the man on account of the matter that he violated the wife of his neighbor. And you shall purge the evil from your midst. |
| 24. Dynamic Translation You must take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the woman because she did not cry out for help in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor’s wife. This is how you remove such wrongdoing from among you. |
