You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep straying{niddachim: going astray} and hide yourself from them; you shall surely return{hashev: restore property} them to your brother.
And if your brother {akhikha: kinsman by covenant} is not near you or you do not know him, then gather it into your house and it shall remain with you until your brother seeks it {derosh: pursuit for recovery}, and return it to him.
In the same way you shall do for his donkey {chamor: beast of burden}, and for his garment; and likewise for any lost property of your brother that has gone missing from him and you find it. You must not conceal yourself {lehit’alem: conceal from view}.
You must not see the donkey of your brother or his ox falling in the road and hide yourself {hitalamta: deliberate avoidance} from them; you shall surely help him raise them up {hakem: act by causing to stand}.
A woman must not carry a man’s item {kheli: male-associated articles} on her, and a man must not put on a woman’s garment, for everyone who does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Enforcer}.
If a bird’s nest is encountered before you on the road, in any tree or on the ground, with chicks or eggs, and the mother is brooding on them, you shall not take the mother {em: source of nurture} with the young {banim: descendants}.
You shall certainly release the mother {em: life-giver}, but you may take the young for yourself, so that it may go well with you, and you will prolong your days {yamim: earthly life span}.
When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet {ma‘aqeh: protective barrier} for your roof so that you will not bring bloodguilt {damim: legal responsibility for blood} on your house if the falling one should fall from it.
You shall not sow your vineyard with mixed kinds {kil’ayim: forbidden hybrids}, lest the full yield {hamle’ah: all that is produced}—the seed you have sown and the yield of the vineyard—be forfeited.
You shall not plow {tacharosh: cultivate soil} with an ox and with a donkey together {yachdav: as a pair}.
You shall not wear a mixed fabric {shaatnez: combined fibers}, wool and linen joined together {yachdav: woven as one}.
You shall make tassels for yourself on the four corners {kanfot: extremities} of your garment {kəsûtkāh: outer covering} with which you cover yourself.
When a man takes a wife {ishah: wife in the marital bond} and goes in to her, and hates {usneah: turns against her emotionally} her.
And he brings against her accusations{alilot devarim: defamatory claims} and spreads a bad name about her, saying, “I took this woman and I approached her, but I did not find for her virginity{betulim: proof of maidenhood}.”
Then the father of the young woman and her mother shall take and bring out the tokens of virginity {betulei: Signs of Purity} of the young woman to the elders {ziknei: Community Leaders} of the city at the gate.
And the father of the young woman {avi: father of the bride} will say to the elders, “I have given my daughter to this man as a wife,” but he hates her {vayisna’ehah: developed animosity}.
And behold, he has brought accusations{alilot: plotted charges}, saying, ‘I did not find your daughter a virgin.’ And these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity. Then they shall spread out the garment before the elders{ziknei: city leaders} of the city.
The elders {ziknei: community leaders} of that city shall take the man and whip {yisseru: inflict judicial correction} him.
And they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver {kesef: silver currency}, and they shall give it to the father of the young woman because he has brought out an evil name {shem ra: reputation of wrongdoing} against a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife; he shall not be able to send her away all his days.
But if this matter {davar: legal complaint} is true and the tokens of virginity are not found for the young woman {naarah: betrothed woman},
And you shall bring out the young woman to the entrance of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die, because she has done a disgraceful act {nḇālāh: morally outrageous offense} in Israel by acting as a prostitute {li-znôt: willful unchastity} in her father’s house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
If a man is found lying with a married woman {be’ulat-ba’al: bound in covenant to a husband}, then both of them shall die—the man who lay with the woman and the woman. So you shall purge the evil {hara: moral defilement} from Israel.
If there is a young woman, a virgin {betulah: never married}, who is betrothed to a man, and another man finds her in the city and lies {shachav: sexual relations} with her;
And you shall bring out the two of them to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them with stones so that they die—the young woman on account of the matter {devar: legal charge} that she did not cry out in the city, and the man on account of the matter that he violated the wife of his neighbor. And you shall purge the evil {hara: communal defilement} from your midst.
But if in the field the man finds the young woman who is engaged {meorasah: pledged for marriage}, and the man seizes {hechezik: forcibly grabs} her and lies with her, then the man who lay with her alone shall die.
But to the young woman you shall do nothing; there is no sin of death {chet mavet: capital offense} in the young woman, for just as when a man rises up against his neighbor and murders him—a life—so is this matter {davar: legal case}.
Because he found her in the field {basadeh: open land}, the betrothed young woman cried out, and there was no rescuer {moshiah: deliverer} for her.
If a man finds a young woman who is a virgin {betulah: sexually untouched} and is not betrothed, and he seizes her {utephasah: takes by force} and lies with her, and they are discovered—
And the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty pieces of silver {kasef: bride price}, and she shall be his wife because he violated her {innah: dishonoring act}; he shall not be able to send her away all his days.
No man shall take {yikkakh: acquire in marriage} his father’s wife, so that he does not uncover his father’s nakedness {kenaf: garment corner symbolizing his father’s sexual claim}.
