So he could give lasting life to the people the Father gave him

So the disciples could prove they were worthy

So people could earn life by religious effort

Entrust yourself to his lead and look to him for life

Keep full control of your own life, since authority is mainly for other people

Treat his rule as important only for private beliefs

Try to prove you deserve life through religious effort

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, you have authority over every person, and I need your saving rule in my life. I admit that I have sinned and cannot give myself life. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust you alone. Be my Lord, and give me the life only you can give. Amen.

Receive the Life-Giving Lord

Lord, revive your Church to honor the authority you have given your Son. Where we have tried to rule ourselves, teach us surrender; where we have grown dull, awaken desire for the life only Jesus gives; where we have ignored the people around us, move us with compassion. Make us a people who live under his lead and offer his life to the world, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew Your Church Under Jesus' Authority

Thank God for Jesus' authority that serves life, for the people entrusted to him, and for the lasting life he gives as a gift.

Thanks for the Gift of Life

Name one area where you resist Jesus' lead, ask God to place it under Christ's authority, and ask for the life and peace Jesus alone can give.

Pray for Surrender

Father, I bring before you the people you have entrusted to Jesus. Open their hearts to his authority, draw them near to his care, and let them receive the life only he can give. Reach my family, friends, neighbors, and those I will meet this week, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
