They are no longer separate people, but a single united life

They stay two people, but under one shared household

They become one only in law, while staying inwardly separate

They stay together only while the relationship feels easy

Only the family's approval makes the bond valid

The verse says nothing about people interfering

Protect the bond and treat separation with great caution

Assume the first serious conflict shows the bond was never real

Let outside pressure settle it quickly, without careful thought

Focus first on winning the argument, then think about unity

Lord, revive your Church to honor the unions you have joined. Where we have been careless, proud, or quick to divide, give us reverence, patience, and truth. Heal marriages, strengthen commitments, and teach us to protect what you have made one. Awaken us to faithful love, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Bring these to God: gratitude for faithful union; reverence for bonds you did not create; thankfulness for love that stays; trust that he cares about unity.

Begin by naming the relationship that feels strained. Ask God to show you where pride, fear, or haste is pulling against unity. Then ask for one humble step, one wise conversation, and one trusted person who can help you protect what God has joined.

Pray for Wisdom Before Words or Decisions

Father, I lift up couples, families, and friends whose bonds are under pressure. Give repentance where there has been harm, patience where words have been sharp, and hope where people feel stuck. Guard what should not be torn apart, and bring healing where separation threatens, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
