He asked them to understand what he had done

He explained why the washing was necessary

Receive his care with gratitude and then serve someone quietly

Admire the example but wait until others notice your efforts

Talk about humility without doing any humble task yourself

Serve only when it improves your standing

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and that I need your cleansing. I turn from my sin and from trusting myself. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as my Lord and ask you to make me yours. Wash my life, lead me in your way, and teach me to follow your humble heart. Amen.

Come to the One Who Cleanses

Lord, revive your Church where pride has grown strong and humble service has grown rare. Give us the mind of Christ, teach us to kneel where love is needed, and let our words be joined to lives that serve. Make us quick to learn, willing to be helped, and ready to serve others in love, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew Your Church in Humility

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you do not keep your love at a distance. Thank you for serving us before we ever could repay you, for showing us humility in action, and for teaching us that true greatness serves.

Thank You for Serving First

Pray by naming one place where Jesus may be asking you to slow down and notice what he has done. Ask him to help you understand his humble way, and then ask for one clear step of obedience today.

Ask for Eyes to Understand

Pray for people who quietly serve others without applause: that the Lord would strengthen them, protect their joy, and make their work fruitful. Remember also parents, caregivers, leaders, and anyone carrying heavy needs in love.

Strength for Hidden Servants

Bring to God any pride that resists being helped, any embarrassment that keeps you from receiving care, and any desire to be seen when you serve. Ask him to shape a quieter, truer humility in you.
