| 9. Formal Translation These were the appointed cities for all the sons of Israel and for the foreigner living among them, so that anyone who struck a life unintentionally could flee there and not die at the hand of the avenger of blood until he stood before the congregation. |
| 9. Dynamic Translation These cities were set apart for all Israelites and for any foreigner living among them, so that anyone who killed someone accidentally could flee there and not be killed by the avenger of blood until standing trial before the assembly. |
