Receive it humbly if you are able, without turning it into pressure for everyone

Assume it is meant to be enforced on every person in exactly the same way

Admire it, but keep your own response unchanged

Treat the people named in the verse as spiritually superior

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned and I need your mercy. I turn from my sin and trust that you died for my sins and rose again. Be my Lord and Savior. Teach me to receive your words with humility and to follow you with my whole life. Amen.

Receive Jesus With Humility

Lord, revive your Church to hear your words with humility. Deliver us from pride, from pressure, and from treating your gifts or callings as a burden for others. Make us compassionate toward people whose path looks different from ours, and steady us in your kingdom purpose, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Us to Hear You Clearly

Father, give me grace to receive what Jesus says, even when it challenges my assumptions. Make me humble enough to listen, wise enough to know what is mine to obey, and gentle enough not to demand my calling of someone else, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

A Teachable Heart

Pray by naming the teaching you are finding hard to receive. Ask God to show you whether he is calling you to obedience, patience, or trust, and then ask for one clear next step that fits what you have understood.

Praying Through a Hard Teaching

Pray for believers living with unusual or costly callings, that they would be honored rather than pressured. Pray for wisdom for pastors, friends, and churches to support them well, and for freedom from shame where others do not understand.

For People with Different Callings

Give thanks for Jesus' plain teaching, for the freedom to receive it without forcing it on everyone, and for the reminder that God's purposes can be served in more than one faithful way.
