Le verset s’ouvre sur le verbe aoriste epecheiresan {ἐπεχείρησαν | epecheírēsan} 'ils entreprirent', encadré par la particule de transition dè {δέ | dè} reliant au contexte. Le groupe nominal tōn perierchoménōn Ioudaíōn exorkistōn {τῶν περιερχομένων Ἰουδαίων ἐξορκιστῶν | tôn perierchoménōn Ioudaíōn exorkistōn} identifie des Juifs itinérants exerçant une fonction d’exorcistes, le participe perierchoménōn qualifiant leur déplacement.
