1 And at that time, Michael the great prince {sar: chief authority}, who stands over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of trouble such as has never occurred since there was a nation until that time. And at that time, your people will be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book {sefer: record of remembrance}.
2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake—some to everlasting life and others to disgrace {charafot: profound humiliation} and eternal contempt {diron: unending loathing}.
3 And the wise {maskilim: those with insight} will shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who justify the many {matsdikei: declare just} will be like the stars for ever and ever.
4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end {kets: decisive conclusion}; many will run to and fro, and knowledge {da'at: insight and understanding} will increase.
5 And I, Daniel {Daniyyel: God is my judge}, saw and behold two others standing—one here on the bank of the river {ye’or: river channel} and one here on the opposite bank of the river.
6 And he said to the man clothed in linen {badim: fine white fabric}, who was above the waters of the river, “Until when is the end of the wonders {pele’ot: remarkable acts}?”
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river; he raised his right hand and his left hand toward the heavens and swore by the Ever-Living One {chai haolam, Guardian of Oaths} that it will be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power {yad: strength} of the holy people is shattered, all these things will be completed.
8 And I heard, but I did not understand; and I said, “My Lord {adoni: Respectful Address}, what will be the end {acharit: Final Outcome} of these things?”
9 And he said, “Go, Daniel, for the words are closed up {setumim: hidden} and sealed {vachatumim: locked up} until the time of the end.”
10 Many shall be purified {yitbararu: personal spiritual cleansing}, made white, and refined; but the wicked shall practice wickedness, and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand {maskilim: discerning followers}.
11 And from the time the regular offering {tamid: continual sacrifice} is removed, and the abomination {shikuts: detestable idol} that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.
12 Blessed {ashrei: congratulatory acclamation} is the one who waits and reaches {veyagia: final attainment} 1,335 days.
13 But you, go your way to the end {laqets: appointed completion}; and you shall rest and you shall stand for your allotted portion {goralecha: destiny allotment} at the end of the days.
